Septarian wood stones are like windows into the past. Each compartment housing a different picture of the Jurassic past and punctuated by the aesthetics of fossilised wood, calcite veins and ammonites.
This piece from Stone Barrow Charmouth is an example containing Promicroceras, Xiphoceras, Asteroceras and Cymbites ammonites. It measures approximately 50 cm across and is 195 million years old! The boarders and calcite walls have been polished to a fine finish.
